Anfibio Buoy Boy Inflatable Life Jacket

The Anfibio Buoy Boy Inflatable Life Jacket is specially designed for packrafters who are concerned with low weight and small pack volume. With a weight of only 340g (S/M) and a pack volume of only one liter, it is one of the most compact life jackets available. The vest is equipped with two chambers and two simple ISO certified valves that allow you to inflate the vest. The inflated chambers extend over the upper part of the back, while the lower part consists of mesh that makes it comfortable to use the backrests you find in a packraft (a common problem with most life jackets is that they are bulky in the back, and not very comfortable to use with the backrest in a packraft).

Construction

Anfibio Buoy Boy Inflatable Life Jacket is equipped with a heavy-duty YKK zipper and an adjustable belt. It also has a removable strap that goes under the crotch and ensures that the vest does not slip off you. Pre-shaped air chambers give you excellent freedom of movement and the placement of the air chambers (chest and neck) means that you will naturally float face up when lying in the water.

Use

The vest excels primarily on trips that combine walking and paddling, but can be used for most trips on flat water, in rivers and in the ocean. It provides good buoyancy and comfort for swimming in calmer water and moderate rapids (river paddling). For serious river paddling we recommend traditional foam-filled vests with impact protection and possibly a rescue harness. The Anfibio Buoy Boy also fits women and will be comfortable to wear.

Disclaimer

The Anfibio Buoy Boy Inflatable Life Jacket has been tested and improved since 2013, and when used correctly it can handle moderate(!) river paddling. The buoyancy is tested to ISO 12402-9 5.5.9 standard. The valves are ISO 12402-7 certified.

When designing a packrafting vest, there are many different considerations, and there are some conflicting needs. This means that different functionality must be prioritized, resulting in a compromise. It is extremely important that the user of the Anfibio Buoy Boy Inflatable Life Jacket understands that the vest is not certified as a PFD (Personal Flotation Device) or life jacket (which requires a guarantee that an unconscious paddler will float face up in the water). Because different people will fill the vest with different amounts of air, it will never be certified. In an extreme scenario, it is also possible to forget to inflate the vest. It is the user's responsibility to use the vest correctly, and you must read the instructions before using it. This life jacket does not guarantee prevention of drowning and is not considered personal protective equipment.
