HISTORY

Ståle Finsrud has a background as an engineer and over the years has several inventions behind him. The background for Rodrig was a trip that started across Lake Enare in Finland, through the wilderness in Vatsari and to Kirkenes with 3 Ally canoes and a kayak in the summer of 2010. This was a strenuous trip with little time for fishing other than fishing from the canoe. Unfortunately, we only had a rod holder mounted on a plank and secured with straps. This worked just fine, but was heavy and bulky to take on a trip. Thoughts about a better system were probably conceived on this trip....

The following year, two Alpacka Lama boats were purchased to travel to Femunden. Packraft was new in Norway, and this seemed to be a type of boat that could be perfectly suited for such trips. However, it was discovered early on that it was not so easy to use a fishing rod from this boat. After all, there were no possibilities to attach the rod. After a few conversations with the importer and promises of cooperation if it was successful, I started developing some prototypes. After some trial and error, Rodrig Carbon was launched in the summer of 2012.

Since then, Rodrig has been further developed and improved both in terms of strength, assembly and weight. In 2022, the company Rodrig AS was founded. At the same time, new models for flexible solutions were launched and a collaboration was entered into with Railblaza in New Zealand regarding the use and distribution of all Railblaza products. Rodrig is today the only system for attaching poles and accessories to Packraft and Ally canoes. I hope this will help to increase the enjoyment of the trip for many fishermen and paddlers in the years to come.
